1. NFL 2011
This app coincides with the same information you read at nfl.com, with the site being accessible from the app. Along with showing scores from across the league, it features team stat comparisons of upcoming games and allows you to set a preference of your favorite team. Highlight videos of your favorite team are available as well as other highlights from around the league. With your favorite team set, throughout the week it will show news items centering around that team. Newsletters are also available to keep you up to date.
2. CBS Sports Pro Football
Along with keeping you up to date on the current scores, CBS Sports also runs a Fantasy Football game, as the app keeps up notified of Fantasy news as well. Signing up and logging in allows you to also make moves to your lineup after getting news and analysis from the experts. It also shows highlight videos and includes a ticker of the most recent news across the league, addressing how it will affect both Sunday’s games and the Fantasy league.
3. Sports Tap
If you’re more than just a one-sport fan, this is the app for you. It allows you to customize it to get the latest scores and highlights from all of your favorite sports and teams. You can either have it show you all the football news, or just the most recent news of your favorite team. It can also show highlights from pro basketball, baseball, golf, NCAA, etc. Using your location, it will show the scores from all the teams in your area. You can set the preferences to send you only the notifications you want, so that you aren’t bothered any more than you want to be. Such as, I set it to send me notifications for Chicago Bears games, meaning it will let me know when the game starts, ends, and changes score, but I chose not to do that for Chicago Bulls, as basketball games change score too often. This app will work on your iPhone as well.
4. DirecTV Sunday Ticket
This is the only current way to watch all of the current NFL games on an iPad. However, you have to not only be a DirecTV subscriber, you also have to be subscribing to their Sunday Ticket plan. If you do, you don’t have to be confined to just watching the games on your TV, as you can also catch them on your iPad.
With these apps, you’ll always know the score on Sunday, no matter where you are, and you’ll be able to check up on your Fantasy Football team as well. While there is no current way for non-DirecTV subscribers to catch all the football games, it seems the technology is there, leaving the hope that maybe some day that might change.
