- If the Convert toggle isn’t set to audio, tap on it to select the music note. This will also change the rest of the options, allowing you to choose an encoding bitrate and the file format: between MP3 and AAC. Use the timeline selection nodes to define the beginning and end of your clip.
- If you want to define the output folder yourself, tap on Save As and select where you want to save the produced file.
- Tap on Convert at the bottom of the screen, then wait for the app to extract and convert the audio.
Convert/Save Using VLC Media Player
Most people forget that the popular VLC player is actually a media powerhouse that includes streaming and converting features. That includes extracting audio clips from videos. To install VLC, pay a visit to its official site and download the installer for your OS. To extract an audio clip from a video file with VLC on all platforms:
- Run VLC.
- Choose “Media -> Convert/Save … “
- Click on the “Add … ” button with the plus symbol on the new window’s right and choose your video file.
- Place a tick next to “Show more” options to do that. Among them, you’ll find two fields where you can define the “Start Time” and “Stop Time” of the encoding. Using those, you can specify the clip you want to extract.
- Click on the button’s pull-down section on the bottom right of the window, left of cancel. We don’t state a specific name because it may vary depending on your last action. Choose Convert.
- Choose the type of encoding and filetype you’d like for your audio clip from the Profile pull-down menu. You can further customize each solution by clicking the wrench icon on the menu’s right. Click on Browse on the bottom right, set your destination file, and when you return, the Start button will be enabled. Click on it to begin the extraction and conversion.
- Press Play and give VLC some time to extract and convert your clip. It will show you its progress through the usual progress bar at the bottom of the window.
Use Audacity
Audacity is one of the best software for versatile audio engineering requirements, and the best part is it is free and open source. For extracting audio from a video file, you only need to open the program. Click “Open Files,” and in the next window, you get to select the file from which you wish to extract the sound.
