Product Overviews

Let’s start by taking a look at the product overviews for both remote desktop tools to see what each promises. I’ll get into whether the products deliver on those promises later in this review.

Supremo Overview:

Supremo is a remote desktop tool that allows for easy access to servers, computers, and mobile devices. It’s compatible with Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux. Thanks to strategically placed servers throughout the world, it’s easier to connect to any machine wherever you might be located. Ease of use is one of the main standouts of Supremo. There are several things that help set it apart from the competition:

Portability – No installation is required, and it can be used on a USB driveSecurity, including random password generationUnlimited installations on unlimited computers

With no complex configuration, Supremo already stands out among most remote desktop tools.

TeamViewer Overview:

TeamViewer provides remote access, remote support, and remote control tools for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. In addition to connecting to computers and mobile devices, you can connect to servers, IoT devices, and commercial-grade machines no matter where you are in the world. The tool is supposed to be easy to use while offering secure connections. According to TeamViewer, there are three things that set it apart from other remote desktop tools:

SecurityCross-platform compatibilitySuperior performance, including file transfer speeds, image quality, and overall usability

In an independent test through Qualitest, the tool was compared to several major competitors, but Supremo wasn’t included. So, I’ll see for myself just how performance compares.

Features

Next up, let’s take a look at the major features for both. Already, I’m finding myself impressed by the portability of Supremo. You don’t have to install the software on the local machine if you don’t want to. While both are remote desktop tools, let’s look at the features beyond just basic remote access.

Supremo Features:

When it comes to features, Supremo’s promise of ease of use doesn’t seem to affect the tool’s feature set at all. In fact, it boasts some impressive features, such as:

Simple Installation – You don’t have to configure firewalls or routers.Unattended Device Access – Install on a remote device to access it whenever you need to, even if no one’s using it.Integrated File Transfer – Drag and drop files between two devices as easily as transferring files between folders on a single device.Online Address Book – Add unlimited Supremo contacts and quickly see if they’re online or not. You can share your address book for remote collaboration as well.Online Reports – Monitor all connections, including those by others in your organization and remote collaborators.Live Chat – Talk while accessing another device.Customizable – Brand the tool for your business or organization.Cross-platform – Works with Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux.Encryption – New passwords are generated for every connection and connections are encrypted using AES 256-bit encryption.Tutorials – I personally love any software that comes complete with detailed tutorials on how to use it.

TeamViewer Features:

TeamViewer offers plenty of features to ensure you’re able to connect to nearly any device worldwide. Some of the top features include:

You can also remotely wake devices.VPN Alternative – Secure, encrypted connections make the software an affordable VPN alternative versus buying both a VPN and remote desktop tool.Security – AES 256-bit encryption for connections.Custom Branding – Customize to your business or organization.Create Shortcuts – Customize your experience with shortcuts to access the features and connections you need most often.Tutorials – Get started quickly with a variety of tutorials.

Pricing

Overall, the features are comparable. However, Supremo offers a few extras. But, which one should you choose? Often, that comes down to pricing. And this is where Supremo really starts to pull ahead as a TeamViewer alternative.

Supremo Pricing:

Supremo also offers a free version for personal use. Try out the business plans for free for 21 days with no registration. That alone is impressive.

TeamViewer Pricing:

As you may notice, TeamViewer is more expensive. In fact, Supremo starts as low as $201 per year versus $49 per month for TeamViewer.

Tools in Action

Now for the fun part: testing each tool. I started with Supremo. The “installation” was complete in less than 30 seconds. It took maybe five more seconds to activate the business license. Then, I was ready to start connecting. From here, you can connect to other devices as long as you have their ID. Find IDs in the “Your ID” field. Accessing more advanced tools is as easy as clicking Tools. I tested both tools with the help of a friend who lives around 200 miles away. I’m using a Windows 10 PC, and he’s using Ubuntu Linux. Within a minute, I was able to see his screen as if it were my own. We then tested out the file transfer process. All I had to do was resize Supremo’s remote desktop screen and drag a file from my desktop to his. I transferred a 60 MB image. The transfer was complete in less than three minutes. Overall, Supremo delivered on speed and ease of use. Now, it’s time to see how TeamViewer did with the same tests. An immediate difference is the installation process. Not only is there a larger file to download, but you have to go through a traditional installation process, which took a few minutes. Once installed, the dashboard is user-friendly. Making a connection was just as fast as Supremo. We had no trouble at all. We then tried a file transfer using the same file as before. He used his Windows PC for this test as you can only drag and drop files between Windows PCs. You can also use the “File Transfer” option under the Partner ID when connecting to a machine. You can also send files directly within “Computers & Contacts.” The speed was comparable to Supremo. Overall, Teamviewer does deliver on its promises. However, users do have to install the software.

Final Results

It offers all the features individuals and businesses would need without the hefty price tag. Plus, it’s easy to take anywhere and doesn’t require any installations.
